homemade lemon sugar scrub for hardworking hands

This is a wonderful sugar scrub to cleanse, deodorise, refresh and soften hardworking hands, especially pampering after lots of work in the kitchen or garden. Although this recipe calls for lemons, any citrus fruit will be suitable for this sugar scrub recipe, so if you would like to experiment by using your favourite citrus fruit, this recipe works well using oranges, limes and pink grapefruits too. This recipe calls for fresh fruit juices. If you'd like to make it and store it to use at a later time, or would like to package it up to give as a gift, essential oils can be used instead of fresh fruit juice for a longer lasting sugar scrub.
(Top Tip: Tailor your sugar scrub to how you like it. Many sugar scrub recipes contain a higher percentage of liquids, but because I like my sugar scrubs to be more solid, I add less liquid. If you'd like to increase the liquid content to create a scrub that it more 'slushy' that's fine too! )
Ingredients:
256 grams (approx. 2 cups) white or golden granulated sugar
60ml - 80ml (approx. 1/4 - 1/3 cup) olive oil
juice of 1/2 lemon (or other citrus fruit: lime, orange, grapefruit)
How to make Lemon Sugar Scrub:
(1) Measure out the sugar into a large bowl.
(2) Add the lemon juice, and stir very well.
(3) Slowly add the olive oil, mixing all the while, until you have a soft consistency that is not too oily.
(4) Using a kitchen funnel, pour the sugar scrub into a clean, dry jar.
(5) Label and date the jar, and if not using immediately, store in a refrigerator, and use within a few days.*
(*Top Tip: For a longer lasting sugar scrub to keep for yourself, or give as gifts, a few drops of essential oil may be used in this recipe in place of fresh fruit juices.)
